Lesson 1:
When you first get into the car you need to check the following:
Preparing:
- Seat Position,
- Seat Belt,
- Mirror Alignment.
When you are ready to set off:
Starting the car and putting it into first gear:
- Ignition,
- Fully depress clutch pedal
- Put the car into 1st gear (without looking at gear stick)
Setting Off (BOSH: Bite Observe Signal Handbrake):
- Bite:
- Gently depress gas pedal (until it purrs),
- Raise the clutch to the biting point (feel the car pull slightly).
- Observe: Check the mirrors and look over shoulder to the side of the
car for the blind spot.
- Signal: Indicate right to show that we are pulling off and right.
- Handbrake: Release the handbrake and off you go!
Stopping: (Mirror, Signal, Position, Speed (MS(P&S))
- Mirrors: Check mirrors - rear view and left.
- Signal: Indicate left to show that you are pulling over and stopping.
- Position: Move over to the left and get close to the curb.
- Speed: At the same time be braking and reducing speed. Finally
depress the clutch and brake.
Then 1, 2, 3:
- Handbrake: Apply the handbrake.
- Gear: Knock the gear back into neutral.
- Signal off: Return the indicator to an at rest position.
