What I did in Lesson 2:
In lesson two I practiced changing gear and negotiating junctions.
When changing gear you need to:
Changing Gear:
- Ensure that your speed is low enough or high enough for the choosen
gear.
- Fully depress clutch pedal
- Put the car into the choosen gear (without looking at gear stick).
- Raise the clutch evenly.
- Depress the accelorator
Starting the car and putting it into first gear:
- Ignition,
- Fully depress clutch pedal
- Put the car into 1st gear (without looking at gear stick)
Junctions: MSPSL
- Mirror Signal Position Speed Look
Stopping: (Mirror, Signal, Position, Speed (MS(P&S))
- Mirrors: Check mirrors - rear view and left.
- Signal: Indicate left to show that you are pulling over and stopping.
- Position: Move over to the left and get close to the curb.
- Speed: At the same time be braking and reducing speed. Finally
depress the clutch and brake.
Then 1, 2, 3:
- Handbrake: Apply the handbrake.
- Gear: Knock the gear back into neutral.
- Signal off: Return the indicator to an at rest position.
